As women entrepreneurs, we dream big. We see ourselves creating our own personal success and financial security. However, only 15% of us have become self-made women millionaires. The rest of us are still trying to figure out how we can get there.
The Million Dollar Business Idea
Most of us believe we have a million-dollar business idea but we’re not even close to our goal despite all our passion and effort. The ultimate frustration is believing in ourselves and not being able to move forward more quickly.
Let me share some insight from my own business and academic paths that have been filled with their share of potholes, failures, and successes.
When we start out as entrepreneurs, we follow the recommended tried-and-true business models for marketing and sales. It’s not that we are unable to operate this way. Many of us just find ourselves uncomfortable or not being authentic when trying to emulate the “all-or-none” and “go-for-the sale” masculine approach.
Here’s the Good News for Women Entrepreneurs
Just as business has moved from the local to the global stage, so marketing has moved from male text-book strategies to neuromarketing – the neuroscience of marketing to customers. It means that logic and reasoning no longer solely dictate sales and customer relationships, but rather there’s a shift to meeting the deeper “feeling” needs of customers.
Brain-wise, we are more inclined to create products and services that satisfy both physical and emotional customer needs. We also have the patience and flexibility to work through customer challenges, and we’re more savvy when it comes to building customer relationships through social media.
